Last Wednesday a group of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and adults from Alderley Edge took part in the final event to celebrate the centenary of Girl Guiding. Along with nearly 3000 others from all over the county, they attended Vision, an event at Macclesfield Rugby Club which looked to the future of Girl Guiding as well as the past.

Elizabeth Horricks, Alderley District Assistant and Senior Section Leader, said "After a review of the year's events, and some singing and dancing we went on a countrywide link-up via a big screen and joined in a countdown to ten past eight, when we all renewed our Promise. We were lucky with the weather, it was so cold, but dry and clear and we finished the evening with spectacular fireworks."

"The Centenary year has been a wonderful one. In Alderley Edge we were truly celebrating our own centenary, for our Guide Unit, 1st Alderley was the second to be formed in the entire country, the first being the one formed by Baden-Powell's sister Agnes. Events have been on a local, regional and national scale and we in Guiding in Alderley have had greater or lesser representation at almost all."

Last September Guiding in Alderley launched their centenary year with a county party in Congleton park and since then there has been a Princess Party for Rainbows, the Brownies took over Tatton, the Guides had the Little Gig, which was a combined camping and pop concert experience and the Senior Section went Dragon Boat racing on Tatton Mere.

The adults also celebrated with a garden party at Capesthorne Hall, by kind permission of the Bromley- Davenports who have been active in their support throughout, and all sections enjoyed an international music event for International Thinking Day and a national event at Harwood Hall in July.

Elizabeth said "It has been a great year, and with Vision, we look forward to the next 100 – starting with an international camp to be held locally next July."
