Coronation Street star to support bypass run and walk

Bill Roache

As reported yesterday, organisers of the Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass Run and Walk have been delighted with the fantastic response from local residents and today we have received confirmation that Wilmslow resident William Roache will be supporting the event.

Coronation Street actor William Roache said "This fantastic and unique fundraising opportunity will help to benefit so many local charities. I know first hand the incredible work that these charities do within our local community and I am delighted to have been asked to be there to cheer everyone off at the starting line."

While a maximum of 800 places available for the run, the walk can accommodate as many people as possible. Commemorative mugs and pens will be on sale on the day of the event and all proceeds from the sale of these items, which have been donated to the event, will be shared between local charities and organisations which are either active in Alderley Edge or Nether Alderley or work on behalf of residents in the area covered by the bypass.

Some charities, notably the Seashell Trust, who are one of the event's organisers, have been recruiting supporters to walk along the new road to raise funds for its work with people with complex communication difficulties. Alderley Edge Hockey Club has been persuading members to take part in the walk and seek sponsorship for the new Astra Turf pitch they are hoping to build and Christies has also been contacting people throughout the North West who can use the sponsored walk to help raise funds for their charity.

Entry and sponsorship forms are available from our dedicated page for the A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass run and walk - a link to which can be found in the top right corner of the home page.

We will be updating this page regularly as more information becomes available over the next few weeks.
