Demand runs high for bypass event

run-update

I am delighted to report that demand to run the bypass on October 24th has exceeded expectations and as a result the organisers have had to revisit the maximum number of runners able to take part.

Race organiser Malcolm Fowler, from Wilmslow Running Club, said "We now have over 520 entries so we have already reached the 500 target. Initially 500 seemed a challenging target but we are now set to exceed this by some distance.

"As we want to raise as much money as possible I'm happy to keep accepting entries until we reach around 800."

This is fantastic news and hopefully bodes well for the number of people who will take the opportunity to walk the bypass from 11am on October 24th, after the race has been completed.

Alan Clarke, from Nether Alderley Parish Council, said "We are delighted at the local response and are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather on the day."

All the money raised from entry fees will be distributed amongst charities and good causes in Alderley Edge, Nether Alderley and the surrounding areas. As yet the list of local charities who will benefit has not been finalised but it will include; Alderley Edge & Bollin Valley Rotary Club, Wilmslow Lions, Alderley Edge Methodist Church, St James & St Philips Parish Church, Alderley Edge Scouts, Alderley Edge Hockey Club and East Cheshire Hospice who are helping with the event by supplying stewards and first aiders.

Refreshments will be available from local traders including Stay, Bubble Room, Cheese Wedge, Fruitcake, Corks Out and Costa who will be selling a selection off their menus at either end of the new road.

We have now set up a dedicated page for the A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass run and walk - a link to which can be found in the top right corner of the home page. We will be updating this page regularly as more information becomes available over the next few weeks. Entry forms for the race along with charity sponsorship forms can be downloaded from this page for anyone wanting to walk or run on behalf of their favourite charity.
