Unique chance to meet local artists

During September 44 professional contemporary artists from across Cheshire will be opening their studios to the public for Cheshire Open Studios (COS).

This event is a unique chance to meet artists, to discover how and where they produce their work and buy from them directly.

The county has been divided into three areas giving you the opportunity to visit several local studios in one day. During the third weekend of COS on the 25th and 26th of September 14 artists from the local area will be opening their doors.

These include local mum Rebecca Crabtree, who is based at Nether Alderley and will be taking part in COS for the first time. Rebecca produces jewellery made using silver, glass and enamel. (see slideshow of her work above).

Rebecca, who set up her company Fired Silver in 2006, said "I'd wanted to take part in last year's Open Studio event but missed the deadline by a couple of weeks. My hope is that it gives me the chance to meet other creative people locally as well as meeting new customers.

"I've been involved in teaching a lot of jewellery making classes over the past couple of years, and while I continue to do that and enjoy it, the Open Studios has given me a focus to get back to making and being creative."

During the same weekend local artist Yvonne Phillips, who is based at Capesthorne, will be opening her studio. Yvonne produces spontaneous, colourful, textured and abstract landscapes along with emotional and dramatic photography.

Five artists from Wilmslow will be taking part as well, including Jane Mitchell who produces colourful textured, semi-abstract art pieces and Sue Crossfield whose handbuilt sculptures are inspired by marine imagery, natural forms and female figures.

Gary Olson, designer and maker of high quality hand-made furniture, will also be opening his Stoney Lane studio which will display work by artists Jane White and Karen Wise as well. Jane is a weaver of beautiful textiles and Karen, from Prestbury, produces vibrant paintings that are both surreal and reflective.
