New face on the Alderley beat

Jim Newns

Policing in Alderley Edge has a new face as Jim Newns has been appointed as the Police Community Support Officer for the village.

For the past six months Jim has been one of the PCSOs for the Colshaw Estate, and for two and half years before that he had a similar role in Handforth.

Inspector Matt Welsted, in charge of Wilmslow Neighbourhood Policing Unit said, "I am sure Jim will soon get to know everybody and become a familiar sight as he patrols Alderley.

"He has had a great deal of success in his previous posts. In Colshaw and Handforth we have worked closely with partner agencies to achieve some significant improvements. Most people tell us the areas are better places to live in than they were a few years ago.

"Although Alderley Edge is very different, Jim will bring a wealth of experience in dealing with people, organizations and businesses to the PCSO role there. He will be a central figure in the community.

"Rebecca Woolley, who was the Alderley PCSO has moved to fill a vacancy alongside PCSO Gareth Harding at Handforth.

"These adjustments reflect the progress in neighbourhood policing which we have made in the Wilmslow area over the past few years and the improved quality of life this has brought for many people.

"PCSOs, working alongside Police Officers and inside the local communities play a key role in this."
