Bypass run and walk draws considerable interest

As reported a few weeks ago, to celebrate the opening of the Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass local residents will have the chance to run or walk the new road on October 24th before it opens to traffic in November.

We have received confirmation that following the publication of our initial article on August 10th there has been considerable interest in both walking and running along the Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass.

Andrew Henshall, from Alderley Edge Rotary Club, said "Within days of the event being posted on alderleyedge.com the first entries came in and we now have nearly 200 entries. Whilst a maximum of 500 runners has been set it now seems likely that there could be more than this number wanting to take part.

"It is difficult to estimate the number of walkers as it may depend on the weather on the day, but over 15,000 people participated, when the local Rotary and Lions Clubs organised the charity walk along the Wilmslow Bypass 15 years ago."

There have also been a lot of offers from people interested in helping to organise the event. Nether Alderley Parish Council, Alderley Edge Rotary Club, Wilmslow Running Club, Seashell Trust and the Combined Charities Christmas Shops have been joined by Laurie Oatway of Wilmslow Lions. In addition help has been forthcoming from the Seashell Trust based in Cheadle Hulme, whose chief fundraiser Dominic Tinner is an Alderley Edge resident, and from Mitch Gilbert who runs Rainbow Balloons in the village and represents the Alderley Edge Traders Association.

We have now set up a dedicated page for the A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass run and walk - a link to which can be found in the top right corner of the home page. We will be updating this page regularly as new information becomes available and entry forms for the race along with charity sponsorship forms can be downloaded from this page for anyone wanting to walk on behalf of their favourite charity. Please note walkers do not have to be sponsored and can simply turn up and walk for a £2 fee, which will be donated to charities operating in and for Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley residents.

The buses which will operate to take walkers to and from their cars at the start and end of their walk have kindly been provided by the Emerson Foundation and the printed entry forms for the race, and sponsorship forms for those seeking to walk for a charity of their own choice, have been kindly donated by Pannone, the Alderley Edge based solicitors.

Malcolm Fowler, from Wilmslow Running Club, has informed me today that over 300 people are now registered to take part in the bypass run so if you want to take advantage of this one off opportunity and run the bypass before it opens to traffic please register soon to avoid disappointment.

See the right hand column of our dedicated page to download the entry and sponsorship forms.
