Jake makes his mark in history as scouts celebrate 100 years

Alderley Edge Scout group will be celebrating its centenary from December 2010 and 10 year old Jake Windram has clearly made his mark in history. Jake's dedication has enabled him to achieve all the Cub badges on offer consisting of Sixer and Seconder, 33 activity badges, 6 staged activity badges, 7 challenge badges and his Chief Scout Silver award.

Jake was presented with his award by District Commissioner, Steve Buckley during Chamboree 2010 in Tabley. Steve told the Cubs that "very rarely does anyone achieve all the badges. It takes a lot of effort and commitment and Jake should be very proud of himself".

Jake's determination along with the support from the leaders has enabled the group to sample all the different activities on offer in scouting. We hope that this achievement will encourage others to follow while we celebrate our groups centenary followed by our District Centenary in 2012.

For Chamboree we made wooden shields and wooden woggles, this counted towards their DIY badges. It looked fantastic watching them all walk into the main arena with the items they had made.

With so many activities and badges on offer its great hearing what the cubs have been up to away from the Scout Hut. The badges give everyone a chance to shine, to learn something new or to build on experiences they already have.

However, December will also be a sad time for us as our Scout leader Margaret Woodall will be retiring after a long service with us. With so much on offer over the next two years our Scout section urgently needs your support.

We already have a healthy Beaver section which started this year as well as a strong Cub section. Without Scouts these children would be lost to other groups or pack up completely.

Interested? Can you help? Come and join our team of volunteers and ensure the section stays open. Our existing team will help and support all new members but it would be to much to expect them to take on additional roles. The role can be as little or as much as you want and is very rewarding. Please help and ensure our Scouts get the opportunities that children like Jake have already experienced. If you feel you can help please contact us through our website.
