Planning application to convert Post Office is withdrawn

The Bubble Room have informed us today that they have withdrawn their current planning application to change the use of 45 London Road, currently occupied by the Post Office, from A1 to A3 to enable an extension to The Bubble Room.

Their planning application had generated considerable concern that the village would lose this valuable service and last Tuesday Councillor Frank Keegan and Parish Councillor Mary Maczkowiak were joined by local residents and traders who gathered outside the Post Office to raise awareness that its future could be under threat.

Jane Mason from The Bubble Room explained "The application was made very much on the understanding that the Post Office was to be relocated within the village and therefore we submitted plans for change of use on what will be a vacant shop unit.

"Therefore, if we withdraw now hopefully alternative arrangements for the Post Office can be made and our application for change of use can be re-submitted and determined purely on planning policy.

"We will keep you informed of all developments as we are working closely with the landlord, Parish Council and interested parties to hopefully find a satisfactory solution."

We believe that Scott Darlington, who runs the Post Office as a franchise, has been trying to sell the leasehold of the business for some time so hopefully an interested buyer will be found to take over the running of Alderley Edge Post Office shortly.
