Weather conditions won't deter flying doctor

Dr Paul Cronin, who runs The Eternal Youth clinic on London Road, set off on his journey round Britain's coast on Saturday August 14th.

The daring Cosmetic Doctor is attempting to enter the Guinness Book of Records by circumnavigating Britain with a 30kg motorbike engine strapped to his back and he hasn't set himself an easy challenge.

As Paul explained his schedule is tight; "I have 21 days and it is just technically possible for me to go the whole way round. However paramotoring is extremely weather dependant and to complete the full journey would require roughly 20 days with no rain and reasonable winds. So a little bit of luck will be required."

Dr Cronin set off from near his home on Saturday and is providing updates via Twitter and his blog so we can keep fully informed of his progress.

To complete the 2000 mile route in time, which has been carefully chosen to avoid any dangerous airspace, Dr Cronin needs to cover 100 miles a day. Having made a good start, completing 300 miles in the first 3 days, the weather conditions deteriorated and on Monday he initially failed to take off due to high winds and then busted a propeller.

On Tuesday he was forced down by low clouds and rain, having managed only 16 miles, and yesterday, having landed in Horns Cross in north Devon after flying only 29.8 miles, because the westerly winds were so fierce, he admitted "It is proving more ambitious than we hoped but I will keep going." - despite spraining his left shoulder during a heavy landing on Tuesday.

Dr Cronin's target is to raise £10,000 for charity and so far he has raised an impressive £5355.00. He explained "The main aim being to generate as much income as possible for the Christie Hospital in Manchester, whilst attempting to do something no one else has ever done before. The point is I am about to be fifty and I want to prove to myself and my friends that I'm not dead yet."

Paul is aiming to fly for a minimum of four to six hours per day but cannot fly in the dark or when it is raining or too windy and due to fuel limitations the maximum duration for each single flight is about 2 to 3 hours.
