Charity tea party was blooming great

Following on from last year's success the Marie Curie shop on London Road held their second Blooming Great Tea Party yesterday, to raise money for the Marie Curie Nurses who provide free care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Thankfully the sun shone so they were able to hold the tea party outside again this year and raised just under £70 from the tea and cakes sales and a further £40 from the tombola. Customers were also treated to 'Juke Box' selection, where requests were played on "His Masters Voice" Gramaphone with 78rpm records, which certainly amused my daughters who had never seen a record player.

Linda Jones, manager of the Alderley Edge charity shop said "The shop takings were also up on a normal Saturday, in fact we nearly sold out of Bric a Brac items so further donations of quality items would be gratefully accepted.

"We would like to thank Wienholts & The Cheese Wedge for their donations of cakes and The Co op & Tesco for their generous vouchers which allowed us to buy the essentials like tea, coffee and milk. Also Mrs Shackleton from the Scouts Hall loaned us the tables and a special mention should go to Kate at Party Packs UK who very kindly donated the disposable helium gas canister, balloons and a specially made banner announcing the event.

"Without the generosity of such donations we could not run such an event each year. Thanks also to the volunteers who worked so hard, baked cakes and gave their time freely and, of course, the public, who gave generously on the day. Hopefully we can make this an annual event at the shop."

The Marie Curie Shop on London Road will be closing for one day on Wednesday, July 14th, so the store can undergo a bit if a refit. Linda explained "We will be relaunching the shop on Thursday 15th with a different shop layout, new displays and more quality items for sale."
