Cheshire East Council’s Ranger Service has helped local students from The David Lewis Centre win a conservation award. The group have been working towards the John Muir Award which was set up to promote education, social and personal development by exploring wild places and getting involved in conservation.

Community Ranger Jan Hanby has spoken to the group on topics ranging from hibernation to using your senses in the natural world and trips were arranged to Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, where the students took part in practical conservation work.

Jan was also asked to help present the certificates at the awards ceremony recently held at the Rural Enterprise Centre in Marton, near Macclesfield.

Councillor Andrew Knowles Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “Cheshire East is an area with beautiful local countryside and a rich variety in wildlife.

“It’s good to see these students taking an interest in their environment and conservation work and there’s no-one better to learn from than our Rangers.”
