Performers of all ages prepare to shine at 106th Festival

Preparations are well underway for the 106th Alderley Edge Festival of Music, Speech & Drama which will take place in venues across the village including local schools, churches and the Festival Hall.

The event, which runs from April 30th until May 4th welcomes visitors to watch the children (and adults) performing with all the performances adjudicated by visiting experts and winners chosen.

Organisers are particularly delighted to have a 20% increase in entries since last year's Festival.

Throughout the week there will be approximately 2000 performing in 148 different classes for woodwind, brass, piano, string and percussion, as well as many vocal classes, both solo and choral. The schedule for the Festival is now on the website www.alderleyedgefestival.com.

Chair of the Festival Amanda Brabban-Brown said "The Festival gives the opportunity for a different kind of experience for the entrants to perform in public what they have practised so hard at home. Standing in front of a live audience gives participants the thrill of applause and builds confidence for their futures."

Tickets priced £4 can be purchased on the door, with children free. These tickets provide access to all the classes for the day with some evening classes having separate tickets at £3. Additionally, weekly tickets priced £10 are available on the door of any of the venues, which give entry to all daytime classes and some evening classes.

Tickets for the Finale concert, which are always in great demand, on Saturday 4th May (£16 for adults and £8 for children) are available at the Festival Hall throughout the week.

The Wednesday evening 1st May at the Festival Hall is also a special evening featuring the Barber Shop choirs – a very popular event so book ahead to ensure a seat.
