Driven to the Edge

Alderley Edge author Malcolm McClean sets off on an unusual journey on May 1st, which will see him cycle from an ‘End’ to an ‘Edge’, raising cash for the Five Stars Scanner Appeal along the way.

He says “I just didn’t have the time to go from Land’s End to John O’Groats so I set about inventing a new challenge. I liked the idea of combining two places which you could reach and not go any further without falling off. When I noticed that there was a house on Chapel Lane called ‘Edge End’ it gave me an idea and it felt like it was meant to be”.

The trip from Land’s End is about 450 miles, as Malcolm takes a small detour to Exeter to see his daughter, and will finish on Alderley Edge itself. He said “I want to get my bike to the point where I cannot go any further and so the Edge is the perfect place. I expect to be back on the evening of Thursday 6th May with enough time to spare to cast my vote”.

The Five Stars Scanner Appeal is raising £1 million for an MRI Scanner at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
