Vandals destroy statue in village park

A Wizard statue which was installed in Alderley Edge Park last year has been vandalised.

Merlin, which was purchase by the Alderley May Fair Committee, was cemented in place on a stone plinth in the flower bed close to the bandstand.

Although the Wizard had been secured with cement, it looked like he had been pulled off and smashed on the ground. His hat, hands and book were broken beyond repair so the May Fair Committee purchased a replacement on Monday, 20th July and hope to secure him back in his flowerbed during the next couple of days.

Councillor Liz Marshall said "We were extremely saddened by this news and cannot understand why someone would do this."

Liz, along with Cllr Bev Chapman tidied the flowerbed and planted three new plants.

She aded "We hope to add to the flowerbed with more plants and a neat border over the next few weeks."

A sign of the times I’m afraid.

Back in the day, The Wizard of Alderley Edge kept 100 knights enslaved in a cavern beneath the ground, ready to do his bidding if England were in peril.

As anyone in Alderley Edge knows...Knight Lives matter!

Yes obviously examples have been set as Police stood by and knelt in respect as they watched monuments being defaced and toppled (Bristol, London)...Whilst curators of respectable museums (Royston) gave their febrile twittish Twitter followers detailed expert advice on how to destroy statues beyond repair.
Clearly Merlin was a wicked slaver and the Park must be "de colonised"

Someone should be ashamed of themselves! I do hope this doesn’t happen again

The small statue before (was it a duck?) was likewise vandalised.
So we will once again suggest that solar powered CCTV is placed in the park; shall we be ignored again?

Isn't it time the village got together and paid for a private Bobby on the beat? An ex Met Officer set up a company to supply Bobbies on the beat. If you read this article it might provide some ideas.

Our mainstream police service has drifted away from it's traditional role of protecting local citizens and property. Another example of State inefficiency and waste oh and heap load of political correctness thrown in so "Travellers" visiting this lovely park can get away with whatever they want as they are above the law.

Another example of sickening disgusting pointless behaviour for which our pussy Police will do nothing about, but they will be kneeling to support monument destroying / defacing terrorist groups. I feel sport fir the MayFair Committee that put the work in to provide this statue. Let it be known that there are people who appreciate what you do. Keep up the good work.

Hi Dave,
I 100% agree with your praise of the 'May Fair folk'; long may M/S Munro et al keep up the good work.
