AECC charity bike ride smashes fundraising target

Short of any action on the pitch this season a group of cyclists from Alderley Edge Cricket Club, led by Ben Lambert, completed their charity fundraising challenge on Saturday, 20th June, with a 100 mile round trip to raise money for the East Cheshire Hospice.

Ben, who set up the initiative, aimed to raise £2000 for the Macclesfield-based centre with the group cycle ride to fellow Cheshire County League Club Neston, based on The Wirral. However, the club and wider community have rallied behind the cause to help eclipse the initial target with the total raised currently standing at an amazing £4500.

Ben Lambert told alderleyedge.com "I organised the event because of the great work East Cheshire Hospice do. I know and understand COVID has been terrible for everyone and charities have taken a hit to their funding-so I was keen to make a small difference to that.

"The ride went really well, everyone enjoyed it and bought into the spirit of the day.

"I have a great group of friends and they all did the charity and cricket club proud. I can't thank them and everyone who donated enough."

It is still possible to support Ben and the team whose donation page will remain open for another two weeks as they aim to maximise donations for the Macclesfield-based centre, donations can be made via Ben's JustGiving page.
