OAP runs for charity

Next week Tregony Jane Windsor will be 3 years into her bus pass and 3 days later on the 28th March she will mark the occasion by taking part in the Wilmslow Half Marathon, having no experience whatsoever.

Tregony is hoping she has inherited the genes of her father George Leigh, who in his prime won medals for cross country running, and has been been pounding the roads since before Christmas, although the snow brought her training to a halt from which she says her body took its time to recover.

Tregony said “Yes, I now have to acknowledge a fact that many people have been telling me for years - I am bonkers!  There, does that mean I am cured now?

"The reason for this foolishness, nay lunacy would be a better word - is the need for funds to carry on the activities of the Animal Support Volunteers (ASV).  We look after any animal in need, although it's fair to say that most of our time is taken up with cats and elderly ones at that.

"They generally come to our attention because their owners are having to give them up due to moving into residential homes, or being hospitalised or regrettably, dying and having no-one else to care for their companion."

Animal Support Volunteers are a group of local people, based around Alderley Edge, who are dedicated to helping animals in need. They guarantee that all animals will be looked after, regardless of age, as long as the vets can assure them that the pet still has a good quality of life.

“All this takes money and vets fees are inevitably a large part of our outgoings, despite the fact that our vets work for considerably less for the ASV. Hence the aching knees, the blistered feet and I won't even mention the jogger's ni..le !” added Tregony.

Tregony will be joined on this challenge by Team ASV which comprises of local newspaper contributor Vic Barlow, who runs daily and has completed marathons in the past, Emma Green who ran the Wilmslow Marathon last year and another first time runner Cassie Ousey.
