Two 10-year-old friends have completed a challenge, separately, to raise money and show their support for the NHS and the tremendous work they are doing to fight the coronavirus.

Freddie Harris and Harry Hardcastle have been running a mile a day, every day, and sometimes more for 27 days – the equivalent of just over a marathon.

Whilst they weren't able run together as a result of the pandemic, they both finished their challenge at the same time, albeit 2m apart.

Harry Hardcastle said "I loved running every day and it felt really good knowing that I was helping East Cheshire NHS during these hard times of Covid-19."

Freddie Harris added "I'm really proud of the money that we have raised for East Cheshire NHS. I've really enjoyed the challenge and I hope it helps a bit."

Freddie's dad Nick told alderleyedge.com "They chose to raise money for the East Cheshire NHS Trust Charitable Fund because they wanted to help with the fight against Coronavirus.

"They recognise that the doctors and nurses are incredibly busy trying to look after a lot of poorly people and that they need lots of equipment to be able to do their jobs properly. They thought that they could try and raise some money to help. Secondly, they want to keep fit during these hard times in self isolation and cannot participate in all the sporting activities they love. "

Nick added "We're very proud of what they have achieved and their commitment to the challenge raising over £1.2k for Cheshire East in total."
