Several police cars rushed to the village centre on Sunday afternoon as residents and passers-by raised concerns over a shirtless man walking down London Road carrying what appeared to be a weapon.
A police spokesperson said "At around 1.30pm on Sunday 8 March police were called to concerns for the safety of a man on London Road in Alderley Edge.
"Officers attended the scene and 44-year-old man was taken to hospital."
Police have not released details regarding any weapons although they have said there was not believed to be a risk to the wider public.
