Hockey: Women Edged out

Alderley Edge Women's 1st team lost 2-0 on Saturday to Investec National League Premiership side Bowdon in the England Hockey Championship knockout Cup .

Edge started really well and just 4 mins in Izzy Reynolds-Duffy had a great lifted shot on target which was well saved.

Bowdon started to put Edge under a lot of pressure and went on to score from open play in the 11th minute to make it 0-1.

Edge tried to respond and could have scored after a goal mouth scramble right near the end of the first quarter but just failed to get thr ball over the goal line.

In the second quarter keeper Rachel Humpherson made a couple of awesome saves to keep Alderley in the game. Edge sadly failed to convert a couple of penalty corner opportunities at the end of the quarter, half time 0-1 down.

In quarter three, Edge defended an early Bowdon penalty corner well but couldn't do the same with a second one making it 2-0 to Bowdon.

The final quarter saw both great defending and attacking from Edge and a few more chances created, but it wasn't to be. Bowdon displayed an assured calmness in possession throughout and solid first touch worthy of their Premier League status.

Alderley Edge Men's over 50's team beat Bowdon over 50's 4-1 in their National Championship cup match . Edge goals scored by Neil Hanley, Mike Parkin, Phil Benton and Mark D'Souza. Edge meet Timperley away in the next round , Sunday 19th Jan 2020.
