Murder investigation launched following the death of a woman in Handforth

Cheshire Constabulary has launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Handforth.

Shortly before 3am today (Sunday, 18th August) the force received a report of a concern for the welfare of a 55-year-old local woman.

As a result officers attended an address on Meriton Road in Handforth where the body of a woman was found inside.

Formal identification has yet to be completed. However, the body is believed to be the 55-year-old local woman.

Her family have been informed of the discovery and are currently being supported by specialist officers.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Two of the men, 43-year-olds and 51-year-olds from Wilmslow, were arrested on suspicion of murder. The other man, a 57-year-old from Handforth, is being held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three men are currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Detective Inspector Paul Hughes, who is leading the murder investigation of behalf of Cheshire Constabulary, said: "We are in the very early stages of our investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what took place and I urge anyone with information that may help our investigation to get in touch."

Detective Superintendent Sarah Pengelly added: "Understandably the local community will be concerned about what has happened.

"I would like to reassure local residents that at the current time this appears to be an isolated incident.

"We have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns should speak to an officer."
