Local students are amongst Withington Girls' School's Class of 2019 who are celebrating an impressive set of A-Level results. This year's cohort of ten girls from the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge areas amassed 18 elite A* and A grades between them, contributing to the School's stellar attainment overall with more than 93% of papers being awarded grades A* to B.

Nearly half of WGS students earned at least 3 A* to A grades and 31% of papers were A*s. Alys Owen, from Wilmslow, (3 A*s, 1 A) was one of 13 WGS girls who achieved at least 3 A*s and she is now looking forward to reading Mathematics at the University of Oxford, whilst Catrin Parry, a Withington Deputy Head Girl from Alderley Edge, is heading to Cambridge to read History.

Alys and Catrin are amongst a group of 13 WGS students to have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge to commence studies in September - nine are from this year's Upper Sixth and a further four are 2018 leavers who received confirmed offers earlier in the year. In an exceptional achievement, one of the School's pupils was the UK's highest performer in OCR's A-Level English Language examination.

"We are privileged to be able to celebrate the achievements of this exceptional group of young women as they move on to the next stage of their life with self-assurance, confidence and excitement," says Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Haslam. "This year's results once again demonstrate the rich diversity of interests enjoyed by our girls, who have not only attained excellent grades across a broad range of academic subjects but who will now go on to study a varied range of courses. As always, our girls do not shy away from the subjects traditionally favoured by boys and we were delighted that 77% of the grades achieved in Mathematics were at A* or A grades."

"We are sad to say farewell to the Class of 2019, who have embraced with gusto the many opportunities available to them and who have contributed so much to school life during their time at Withington," says Mrs Haslam, adding that 16 pupils, or 22% of the cohort, completed the challenging Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award while preparing for their A-Levels.

Open Days for entry to Withington Girls' School will be held on Thursday 7th November and Saturday 9th November – see www.wgs.org for more details on 2020 Admissions.
