Alderley Edge gets into the festive spirit at Christmas light switch on

Hundreds of residents and visitors came together in the village centre this evening to mark the start of the festive season with the Alderley Edge Christmas lights switch on.

There was a fantastic atmosphere in the village this evening for this ever popular event organised by the Alderley Edge Traders Action Group.

Crowds gathered on London Road to see the lights switched on by local resident and star of The Real Housewives of Cheshire Rachael Lugo.

She was accompanied on stage by the winners of the school's poster competition, Agnes Gooda and Eva Heap from Alderley Edge School for Girls and Freya Halliwell and Alex Bates from Alderley Edge Community Primary School.

Father Christmas made an appearance, much to the delight of the little ones, having set up his grotto inside Clarksons of Cheshire and families were also able to enjoy fairground rides, and a variety of stalls providing entertainment and information from community groups.

During the evening local performers took to the stage, including the Alderley Edge School for Girls' String Quartet, Alderley Edge Community Primary School Choir, Ryleys' School Choir, SMB Dance, The Bennetts and Maisey Marshall.

I can only imagine the look of wonder and delight on the faces of the little children as they gazed upon a " Real Housewife of Cheshire" at this years festive curtain-raiser.

Shame about "parked cars blocking footpaths" all over the village last night though though

Thank you Mitch Gilbert of AeTAG for organising such a great evening. I was part of the small team who assisted him and I think he did a wonderful job of bringing together community groups, churches, and residents, creating a fantastic, happy, festive atmosphere in the village. The traffic management team who organised the road closure were assisted by volunteers organised by Steve Taggart and they did an amazing job of keeping everyone calm whilst directing traffic around London Road so they could go on their journeys. We are very lucky here in Alderley Edge to have so many people who are prepared to put in effort and time to make our village really special. Congratulations Mitch, you did GOOD!!!

Great job Mitch & Team.
However next year can we return the main stage to where it has been for the last two years, lots more room and a better flow of visitors from that end of London Road.

Also, maybe a couple of signs indicating where Father Christmas is!
