The doors were officially opened on the Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop in Wilmslow by Celebrity GP Dr Rangan Chatterjee on Saturday, 27th October.
Now in its 47th year and having raised over £5million the shop is back open for business and looked as festive as ever with its range of over 300 different card designs from 30 local and national charities available to purchase from now until 8th December.
Taking time out of his busy schedule, GP, bestselling author, TV presenter and resident doctor on BBC One's Breakfast Show, Dr Rangan Chatterjee was greeted at the Wilmslow shop above the library by Sheila Hallas MBE, who first came up with the idea of the shops and has been instrumental in their on-going success.
He spent 30 minutes chatting with customers and volunteers whilst browsing the shop and buying cards. He was particularly impressed by the fact that 100% of the money from all sales goes to the charities as all volunteers give their time for free.
Dr Chatterjee said "I am delighted to support such an incredible local initiative. I am amazed that it has been running for 47 years and has raised over £5 million!" he added "I will be buying all of my Christmas cards here this year."
Founder of the Christmas Card Shops, Sheila Hallas MBE said, "We were thrilled that Dr Chatterjee could attend to launch our 2018 shop. Having such a celebrity visit was a great boost for all the volunteers who give up their time not just in the festive period, but all year in the planning of this very special initiative."
The Wilmslow shop in the library is open every day during library hours until 8th December. Shops are also in libraries in Macclesfield, Hale, Sale and Altrincham and Knutsford Curzon Cinema. Full details of opening times can be found on www.christmas-cards.org.uk and cards can also be purchased on line.
