Penny goes a cut above to raise over £1000 for children with cancer

14-year-old girl from Alderley Edge has had 8 inches of her hair cut off on her birthday so she can donate it to The Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs free of charge to children that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Earlier this year Penny Hirst took part in the Manchester's flagship Race for Life event to raise money for Cancer Research and on Saturday, 8th September, she took her total to £1077.

Shortly after completing the 5k Mud Run, Penny heard about a girl who donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust and decided her birthday was a good date to donate her hair.

Penny said afterwards, "Ever since I was young I've known many people who have been affected by cancer and in 2017 someone close was diagnosed, I have realised recently how I can help others by doing daft things, having fun and understanding. Thank you to all who have supported me."

Asked about her new haircut Penny said, "I was nervous as I have had long hair for many years but it feels so light and great for a new year."

Penny's parents said, "She is amazing at grabbing something and making it positive."
