The final preparations are underway for this year's Alderley Edge Village Show.

The Alderley Edge Village Show, which has been a part of the village calendar for the past 77 years, is organised by the Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society. This year's event will take place at the Festival Hall on Saturday 1st of September.

The competitive show aims to promote and encourage interest in horticulture and crafts for all ages. It is open to everyone, offering the chance for local people to enter their flowers, vegetables, fruit, cakes, photographs or works of art.

Both adults and children can compete in the Village Competition which includes ugliest fruit or vegetable, longest cucumber and heaviest marrow.

All the classes have been reviewed this year so its important that entrants check the show programme before entering.

Fenton Simpson, Village Show Manager of Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, said "We are hoping to get more people to enter from the village and surrounding areas as the village show is not just about the allotment people. We want the whole village to take part in some way. Many thanks to these business for their help so far in preparing for this years show.

"This years cold start and heat wave have been a challenge to our growers but lots of fruits and vegetables are early so it's going to be an interesting show!"

More details are available in the show programme, together with the entry form.

Refreshments, including a selection of homemade cakes, will be served during the show and there will be the opportunity to win prizes donated by local businesses in the raffle.

Entrance is 30p per class and entry forms must be received no later than 8pm on Wednesday 29th of August.

The Shell Trophy in memory of Ian Miller will also be awarded for the best garden or floral display seen from a public road.

Admission to the show is £1 for adults and 50p for children. Doors open at 12 noon, the awards and trophies will be handed out at 3pm.

Saturday !st September we received a trophy for front gardens. I would like to say firstly many many thanks to the organisers and all those involved in the Alderley Flower show it was a fantastic well organised afternoon.
Secondly to receive the trophy was a double honour for us because the Trophy was dedicated to a well know local keen gardener Ian Miller. His wife presented the trophy in her late husbands name and I had know Ian since childhood. Also present were his 2 lovely sisters who I hasten to add were both Alderley Edge Rose Queens .Their mother worked for many yrs at Granthams Grocery on Heyes Lane a long time family buisness. She was also a good friend to my late grandmother Margaret Randles .
Many many thanks to all
