Defibrillator to be installed at Monks Heath crossroads

064

Having recently acquired the telephone box from BT at the Monks Heath crossroads, Nether Alderley Parish Council will be installing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) over the next few months - making two of these devices available at key locations within the Parish (the other is at Nether Alderley Primary School).

A spokesperson for NAPC said: "According to a recent study, only 8% of people survive cardiac arrests in the UK and less than half of bystanders intervene when they witness someone collapse. However, there is growing awareness nationwide of how AED kits can substantially increase the likelihood of that person's survival if deployed in those vital first few minutes; so we are proud to be able to offer life-saving assistance to both parishioners and visitors by placing these kits at easily accessible public areas."

At the defibrillator site there will be information on how to gain access, and the kit itself contains step-by-step instructions, including how to administer vital CPR, and users are encouraged to obtain telephone guidance whilst using the device. NAPC will also ask the BP petrol filling station adjacent for permission to advertise the AED's location.
