Awards for best floral displays

The winners of this year's Shell Trophy competition were announced at the Parish Council meeting on Monday 13th August.

The competition was free to enter and judging was carried out by Councillor Mike Dudley-Jones, Alderley Edge in Bloom volunteer Bev Chapman and Councillor Craig Browne.

Councillor Mike Dudley-Jones explained "The Shell Trophy will be awarded each summer to those deemed by the judging panel to have made the greatest contribution to the look of the village, as viewed from a public road, and can be won for a residential display, a retail premises display, a cafe, restaurant or bar display or a non retail or office display."

On this occasion it was won for a residential display and awarded to Mr & Mrs McLelland of Heywood Road whilst highly commended awards went to Ray Mottram of Beech Close and Mr & Mrs Francis of Orchard Green.

The Shell Trophy was found during the extensive refurbishment of the Festival Hall and this discovery coincided with the sad death of Ian Miller, a lifetime resident of Alderley Edge and a keen and expert gardener. Therefore it seemed an appropriate gesture to re-present the Trophy in his memory.

The other category winners were:

  • Best Retail Premises Display - Grantham's Fine Food and Wine
  • Best Cafe, Restaurant or Bar Display - The De Trafford Arms
  • Best Non Retail or Office Display - The Select Property Group

The winners and runners up will be presented with their awards and certificates at the Annual Village Show on 1st September at the Festival Hall at around 4pm.
