Over 200 runners took part in the annual Wizard 5 Mile race on Thursday, 12th July, raising nearly £1000 for Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society.

Starting at the Wizard National Trust site, 230 runners set off through the woods, trails and paths around the Edge and out to Hare Hill.

Organised by Wilmslow Running Club, The Wizard 5 race is always very popular with both club and occasional runners.

Andy Watts said "It combines a challenging course with an informal atmosphere in the lovely Cheshire countryside. We always get comments about how much the runners enjoyed the route, and many participants have been introduced to the Edge and Hare Hill areas by taking part. It has been going for 13 years, and always fills up well in advance.

The race was won by Jake Littlehales running for Stockport Harriers, with Diane McVey of Wilmslow Running Club the first woman to finish. Team prizes went to Macclesfield Harriers for the men, and Chorlton Runners for the women.

The race proceeds of around £950 will be donated to the Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society, representatives of which marshalled the event. Thanks also to the volunteers from Cheshire Search and Rescue, providing first-aid support, and to the National Trust at Alderley Edge and Hare Hill for hosting the event."
