Starting this week United Utilities will be carrying out Water Treatment Works on Mottram Road as part of the construction of the Wilmslow to Alderley Edge pipeline.
Christian Ewen, a spokesman for United Utilities, said: "United Utilities' £6.7 million project to improve water supplies in the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge areas of the county are progressing well. We are carrying out this work to reinforce the water supply network serving the growing population of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge."
"Engineers working on our behalf are laying a 4.8km water pipe from Wilmslow Water Treatment Works to Alderley Edge Service Reservoir. The new pipe will ensure that we can continue to deliver our high-quality water supplies to Wilmslow and Alderley Edge during the 21st century and beyond" added Christian.
In 2010 United Utilities will mainly be working through fields towards the Alderley Edge Service Reservoir but from Wednesday 10th February work will begin to cross Mottram Road to the east of Hough Lane.
This work will take up to 3 weeks to complete during which time a section of Mottram Road will be closed to vehicles. A diversion route will be in place taking traffic via Alderley Road, Wilmslow Old Road, Wilmslow Road, Prestbury Road and Hough Lane, see diversion map above.
During January a section of Hough Lane has been closed, the work here is going to take a couple of days more than expected because of the ground conditions in the area, but the road will be open again before United Utilities move on to Mottram Road.
