The new Tesco Express store in Alderley Edge has recruited 10 new members of staff from the local area to work in the new store. They worked closely with the local Job Centre Plus in the recruitment process which attracted many applicants.

Store Manager Lisa Kenny said: "We’ve recruited a great team of people and I’m looking forward to working with my new staff. We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store in Alderley Edge, and look forward to playing an active role in the local community."

Fundraising Manager for East Cheshire Hospice Phil Robertshaw will be the guest of honour when the new store opens at 8am, and Store Manager Lisa and her staff will present them with a cheque for £500.

Phil said: "I would like to thank Tesco for the kind donation which will go towards the £6,000 we need to fundraise every single day just to make ends meet."

Phil continued: "The money will help buy the everyday things we need, from the tea bags we use to make a cuppa for relatives through to the disposable plastic aprons the nurses wear.  It’s all absolutely essential and helps keep the hospice going. Without our friends in the community, the local people who give their time, their skills or their money, the hospice just couldn’t survive."

Tesco Express store manager Lisa said: "We are delighted to be able to support East Cheshire Hospice. We are really glad that Phil is coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us."

Lisa added: "My staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community."

The doors of the new Tesco Express on London Road, Alderley Edge will open for the first time at 8am on Friday 5th February, with the official opening ceremony and cheque presentation taking place later that morning at 10.30am.

The store will be open from 7am – 11pm, seven days a week and will have the added convenience of a free cash machine, bakery and 2 self-service tills.

I'm sure Tesco could have afforded much more than that. After all it's only a publicity stunt.

Good luck to them. I certainly won't be shopping there and know many others who won't as well.

From what I saw yesterday, Claire will be very lonely wandering around with only very few customers yesterday afternoon. I was in the marvellous Fruitcake after shopping in the ever so friendly Coop.

I think we get the idea now, Brian. You don't like Tesco.

I enjoyed your comment on the new cafe thread about there being 'nothing wrong with healthy competition'.

Please let it be a mistake, "Tescos open from 7am - 11pm 7days a week". I understood that Sunday trading was confined to 6 hours, but then with Tesco, who knows?

I don't like Tesco either Chris but there again I'm not an employee :-)

Tesco must have the record for the highest % of company staff posting on here I reckon it's 20%. Says a lot really when they have to use the community web site to protect against the public's view of their brand.

In 1994 the Government introduced the Sunday Trading Act, which enabled large shops (over 280 sq m/3,000 sq ft) to open up the purpose of serving retail customers for up to 6 continual hours on Sunday. Small shops (under 280 sq m/3,000 sq ft) have no restrictions on opening times.

It's nothing to do with liking Tesco or not. And as far as I knew this was a public website where everyone was welcome to their own opinion, whether they are Tesco staff or not.

These comments are peoples own and we are all welcome to express them and respect each others.

Please don't get caught as I did, the traffic warden is ready and waiting as a whole row of us were given penalties.

Outside the Tesco Express I received a parking ticket because of the change from general restricted to loading bay at 3pm. I will contact Cheshire East about the crazy times for delivering whilst children are leaving all the schools.

I was collecting my daughter from the primary school. We are also now very aware of large lorries in the village because of the tragedy last week.

My wife didn't know the bays changed to loading bay from 3pm either and also received a ticket a few weeks ago, it seems the traffic warden knew the time of the change for those bays and she were given a ticket a few minutes past 3.00pm.

I see it is very unfair, many resident knew those spaces as normal spaces before Tesco yet the change should have more publicity and the more visible markings.
