Update: Sinkhole is being repaired without need for road closure

Following further investigations, Cheshire East Highways has confirmed that London Road will not need to be closed to enable a sinkhole to be repaired.

Last week we were informed that London Road would need to be closed for two weeks in both directions, from the entrance to the Waitrose car park, back up to the junction with Heyes Lane.

However, the 4ft deep hole, is being repaired without the need for the road to be closed.

Councillor Craig Browne said "I am pleased to report that further investigations by United Utilities and CE Highways have confirmed that the sinkhole is the result of an old (uncharted) highway drain, rather than a collapsed sewer. CE Highways are currently backfilling it with concrete, before tarmacing it over.

"I have been told that the works should be completed by the end of the day and that there will be no need for any closure of London Road."
