Free and unlimited Wi-Fi is now in place for patients and visitors at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

The service, which shows up as 'NHS Wi-Fi' in and around the hospital building, is completely free to use with no time restrictions.

Kath Senior, Director of Nursing, Performance and Quality, said: "For some time Macclesfield Hospital patients and visitors have been telling us that they would like Wi-Fi to enhance their stay, so we are delighted to be able to offer this service completely free of charge.

"It will mean that, where appropriate and providing it does not cause a disturbance to others, people on the site can use the internet and keep in touch with family and friends online more easily."

The trust is asking patients and visitors to show consideration to others when using the Wi-Fi, particularly for social media purposes. Photographing, filming or recording hospital patients and staff without their express permission is strictly forbidden.

Restrictions on mobile phone use are also in place in some areas of the hospital, for example within the MRI suite.
