Staff and residents at Brookview Bupa Care Home on Brook Lane threw open their doors to the public as part of UK-wide celebrations to mark Care Home Open Day recently.

A joint initiative by all the UK's leading care providers, Care Home Open aims to showcase everything that's good about care homes. This year's theme of "Linking Communities" aimed to develop stronger links between local people and their neighbourhood care home.

Brookview Bupa Care Home invited the community to join them on Saturday, April 21st, which also happened to be the Queen's 92nd birthday. As a result, there was a Royal garden tea party and entertainment was provided by Alison Bennison's Grow Project workshop, a sensory experience involving seeds and plants.

General Manager at Brookview, Maureen Southern said: "Care Home Open Day is proving to be an increasingly popular event and offers people an opportunity to learn more about the work of care homes, whether they are thinking about it in the context of support for a loved one or a career opportunity.

"We're also finding that more members of the community are showing an interest in the event, and opening our doors offers a chance to ensure elderly people continue to enjoy connections with their neighbours. Our residents really enjoyed meeting a range of new and familiar faces, whilst marking the Queen's birthday with some cake and a cup of tea."
