Hoax emails sent to local schools threatening to mow children down

Some local schools received a malicious email on Wednesday, 28th March, threatening an attack later that day.

Cheshire Police confirmed that the Counter Terrorism Unit viewed the emails as a hoax.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said "This morning (28th March) Cheshire Police received a number of phone calls from schools across the county concerning a malicious email.

"The emails were not isolated to the county's schools and are believed to have been sent to those across the country. The threats were to use a vehicle to injure students.

"The email has been confirmed as not being credible and appears to be a malicious hoax. The National Crime Agency are aware.

"We do not believe there to be any threat to our communities.

"We'd like to thank schools for remaining vigilant and urge them to report anything suspicious.

"We will continue to work closely with them and local authorities."
