See what lies beneath the Edge

Families have another opportunity to see what lies beneath the Edge next month.

Derbyshire Caving Club are holding an Open Weekend at the Alderley Edge Copper Mines on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April. Small groups will be taken down for a guided tour of Engine Vein Mine, which has been worked since the Bronze Age.

Trips will run every half an hour from 10 am with the last trip at 4pm on both the Saturday and the Sunday. Space on any of the trips can be reserved online or people can turn up on the day as space is left for people who do not book.

Members of the club will also be demonstrating modern rope access methods in the mine and there will be splays about mine history and archaeology.

To book timed tickets on-line (up to midday on the Friday before or until all slots are full) visit the Derbyshire Caving Club website.

You do not need to bring any special equipment, lights and helmets will be provided, but you should wear reasonable footwear and clothes which are not new as they may get a bit sandy or muddy.

There are steps and, for some trips, a ladder that has to be climbed so you may be well advised to contact the Derbyshire Caving Club in advance if you have limited mobility or special needs so they can adapt the trip to suit your requirements.
