Cricket: U11 team retain their title at Lord's

Seven boys from the AECC Under 11 squad travelled back down to Lords Cricket Ground, to play in the Primrose Hill National Indoor Cricket Tournament and defend their title as current champions.

Teams from all over the country took part in the event at the prestigious venue.

Alderley Edge's first round game was tense but they held out and passed the 108 run total, set by their opponents, with only two balls to spare. This appeared to settle any pre-tournament nerves and Alderley dominated the next two games in the round robin section by a superb display of batting from all the team knocking up scores of 184 and 182 respectively in each of the 12 over games. The bowling and fielding was equally impressive leading Alderley Edge to two comfortable victories.

This resulted in Alderley Edge winning their group and assuring them a place in the final.

Alderley Edge loss the toss and were put into bat scoring a credible 130 with solid batting performances from Freddy Webb and Matthew Murthy who had opened the batting for three of the four matches. Alderley took two quick wickets and after a fine display of bowling from all the team with Theo Johnson expertly keeping wicket, the last wicket went down meaning Alderley had won the match by 37 runs and retained their title as Champions.

The players were: Archie Vaughan (c) Daniel Woolf, Christian Smith, Theo Johnson, Freddie Savage, Matthew Murthy and Freddy Webb.

Congratulations and very well done to the team, I am delighted to see that a new generation of players will ensure future success for our club in these days of "electronic games".

I am very thrilled that the AECC U11s have achieved another trophy. We've been doing this, every now and again, since 1974!!! Well done the boys.
