Driver of stolen vehicle deliberately rams police car

Cheshire Police has launched an investigation after a police car was deliberately rammed by a stolen car in Wilmslow.

At approximately 2.00am today, Tuesday 16th January, officers attempted to stop a silver Mitsubishi Showgun near to the roundabout next to Summerfields Village.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and instead deliberately reversed into the police car and rammed into it multiple times, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. A second police car was also damaged during the incident.

The Mitsubishi, which had earlier been reported stolen from an address on Leek Old Road near Macclesfield, then drove off from the scene and was later found abandoned on Hollies Lane, Wilmslow. Officers with the help of dog patrols made a search of the area but the suspects were not located.

Inspector Angela Marinari said: "The offender in this case has not only put officers lives at risk, but they also caused thousands of pounds damage to two police cars, and it will now be left to the public to foot the bill for their stupidity.

"Thankfully on this occasion the officers involved did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the incident; however the consequences could have been far worse and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

"I urge anyone who believes that they may have any information which could assist with the investigation, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Macclesfield."

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 39 of 16/1/2018. Information can also be passed anonymously, via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Scum, pure scum .....
Without the Police, this country would be like the Wild West all over again.
Just hope the Police catch them and they're given a LONG jail sentence and not just a pathetic suspended sentence or something similar like a slap on the wrists !!!

I find it ridiculous that not only could two police vehicles not stop them, but it was 2am with pretty much zero on the roads and Cheshire police still draw a blank.
I would find this hilarious if I wasn’t being told I was paying 5% extra for this service next year, this is almost on a par with the Johnstones jewellers fiasco.

If caught then their assets should be used to pay for the damage .
