Countdown to the 2017 Christmas lights switch on

The countdown to Christmas will officially start in the village on Thursday, 23rd November, when the Alderley Edge Christmas lights are switched on.

We are currently awaiting confirmation regarding whether a celebrity will be making an appearance to help switch the lights on with the two winners of the school's poster competition: Mya Taube from Year 5 at Alderley Edge School for Girls, and Max Bailey from Year 6 at Alderley Edge Community Primary School.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of this popular community event which is organised by Alderley Edge traders, as a thank you to those who have supported them during the year.

Once again, London Road will be closed to traffic from 5pm, from the junction with Heyes Lane to the junction with Chapel Road, to enable the festivities to spread down the centre of the village.

A stage will be located on London Road, outside the former Nat West Bank, where local resident John Wallace will be introducing the performers, starting at 6pm.

Entertainment will be provided by Alderley Edge School for Girls' Choir, Alderley Edge Community Primary School Choir, Ryleys' School Choir, Luis Sullivan, Drew Selby, SMB Dance, The Bennetts and Siren & Sound Choir.

To keep the little ones entertained there will be fairground rides, a balloon entertainer and snow globe and hopefully Father Christmas will manage to make an appearance on his sleigh.

Mitch Gilbert, Chairman of AeTag said "It will be a great evening to bring local residents, businesses, restaurants and bars together for a fun and family event to celebrate the start of festive season."

The Alderley Edge Christmas lights will be switched on at approximately 7.30pm and the event is scheduled to finish at 9pm.
