1st Alderley Brownies and Guides joined together this week to take part in a series of challenges designed by UK Parliament and Girlguiding North West England to help girls "engage, explore and be empowered" during Parliament Week.

Amanda Spedding explained "The goal for Parliament Week is to help young people learn about how Parliament works and understand why democracy is important. The Brownies and Guides learnt about the two sides of the chamber in the House of Commons, held a debate on the future of Alderley Edge library and took a vote."

Rachael Grantham, Chairman of the Parish Council, and Craig Browne, Ward Councillor for Alderley Edge and Parish Councillor, joined in the activities and explained their roles in our community.

Rachael Grantham said "I was delighted to be asked to join the Brownies and Guides in their activities during Parliament Week. It was a fantastic opportunity to talk to the girls about how Alderley Edge Parish Council and the Youth Council work and about the various things we do locally.

"We had a brilliant debate on whether they believed Alderley Edge Library should be closed, after hearing lots of reasons for and against the possible closure the majority believed it should remain open. Time will tell! Well done girls."
