Alderley Edge celebrates two In Bloom awards

Volunteers are celebrating after picking up two awards in the village's second North West In Bloom entry.

Representatives from Alderley Edge In Bloom attended the awards ceremony at Southport Convention Centre on Friday, 3rd November, where they were delighted to pick up a Silver Gilt award in the best small town category.

Leslie Cox, Chair of the Alderley In Bloom group said "Well done to all our volunteers, to the Parish Council for their help, to the residents of Alderley Edge who paid for the wonderful planters in the village, to the businesses who paid for hanging baskets and the bars and restaurants who continue to keep their part of the village litter free."

Kelvin Briggs added "The quality of the Alderley Edge entry received very favourable comments from the judges. You only have to walk down London Road to see the colourful planters and hanging baskets brightening the village to see why. The regular litter picks and weeding parties have tidied up the shopfronts and pavements creating such a pleasant environment for locals and visitors to Alderley Edge."

Additionally, Chorley Hall Lane Allotments were awarded 'Thriving' by the Royal Horticultural Society. This is Level 4 award award in the RHS 'It's Your Neighbourhood' competition which runs alongside Britain in Bloom and awards community groups for cleaning up and greening up their local environment.

Fenton Simpson, Chairman of Alderley Edge Allotments and Gardens Society, said "All the allotmenteers at Chorley Hall Lane are very proud to receive this award as we were not expecting to to be awarded any prize this year. It is a testament to the community feel of the site and the hard work we have done to foster a caring and friendly community of like minded individuals, couples and families who enjoy being outdoors and growing flowers, vegetables, fruit and organsining the village show each year.

"We do get lots of comments from the public on how well the site looks and its great that we have been recognized by the RHS."

It was also a hugely successful year for Wilmslow which scooped their largest haul of awards and accolades from the North West In Bloom judges.

Wilmslow collected no fewer than seven awards over the two days at ceremonies in Southport.

On Thursday 2nd November, three 'It's Your Neighbourhood' awards went to Wilmslow groups. The Friends of the Carrs achieved the top tier of 'Outstanding, whilst the Chapel Lane Business Group and Transition Wilmslow were both awarded the 'Thriving' tier for their work on Chapel Lane and in The Temp.

Not only did Wilmslow win a fourth Gold Award in the Best Large Town category, in their fifth year of entry, but they also achieved the Pride of Cheshire East Award – a prize made at the discretion of the Judges among every town entry in east Cheshire.
