Plans are well underway for the Alderley Edge Christmas lights switch on which will kick off the festive celebrations in the village centre.

With less than three weeks to go local residents are urged to put Thursday 23rd November in their diary, so they don't miss out on what is one of the highlights in the village's social calendar.

Once again, London Road will be closed to traffic to enable a stage to be situated, as it was last year, close to the former NatWest Bank, where entertainment will be provided by local schools and choirs.

Now in its 15th year, the event will take place from 6pm until 9pm with the lights switch-on happening approximately 7.30-7.45pm. As usual the honour will be carried out by the winners of the school's poster competition, who will probably be assisted by a local celebrity.

To keep the little ones entertained there will be fairground rides and a balloon entertainer - but of course no festive celebrations would be complete without an appearance from Father Christmas who will arriving on his sleigh.

Mitch Gilbert, Chairman of AeTag said "It will be a great evening to bring local residents, businesses, restaurants and bars together for a fun and family event to celebrate the start of festive season."

London Road will be closed from the junction with Heyes Lane to the junction with Chapel Road from 5pm on Thursday 23rd November to enable the stage to be set up.
