The ever popular Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop is popping up at Wilmslow library this week where festive shoppers can be sure that 100% of their money goes to good causes.
This year more than 50 different organisations are set to benefit from the sales of their cards, with every penny being donated going directly to the charity. Volunteers have raised over £5million since the first shop appeared 46 years ago, which has gone to support a vast range of charities.
The dedicated volunteers behind the fundraiser will be manning the shop from Saturday, 28th October, when it will be officially opened by Tatton MP Esther McVey, until December 9th.
Once again the volunteers are aiming to raise thousands of pounds, with any costs being covered by the sale of other Christmassy treats, such as twinkly lights, toys and stocking fillers.
Local and national good causes which are set to benefit this year range from health and animal charities, to those providing services for the elderly, young, and vulnerable.
Sheila Hallas MBE established the Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop in 1971 with her first shop in Alderley Edge.
Awarded the MBE in 1995 for her work, Sheila said: "So many people like to buy charity Christmas cards and do their bit this time of year, but there is always the question of how much of the price actually goes to the cause. I think that's why our shops have been so successful over the years, because customers know every penny they spend on cards is going exactly where they intend.
"We invite the charities to come and sell the cards themselves, which also gives them the chance to speak to customers and share a little bit of what the money they raised will be used for. There are simply hundreds of different designs and more than 50 charities to choose from, so there's sure to be something that takes almost anyone's fancy.
"We've become quite a popular fixture on the high street with our pop up shops, and we find many familiar faces coming back year-after-year. We have businesses purchasing charity cards, and a growing customer base among children and young people who really want to do something good for others at Christmastime. We're so grateful for the support of every single one of them."
