Garden waste collection put to bed for winter

The garden waste collection service in Cheshire East will be suspended again this winter to cut costs and rationalise resources.

Cheshire East Council's wholly-owned environmental services company Ansa will suspend collections of garden waste from Sunday, December 3rd, through to Sunday, February 11th, 2018.

Residents are asked to check the council's website for information for details of the 'last' and 'next' green waste collections in their area.

Any green waste during this period can be taken to one of the council's household recycling centres.

The interruption applies to green waste only. Collections of normal household waste, including recyclables, will continue.

Councillor Don Stockton, cabinet member for assets and regeneration, said: "I am grateful to our residents for their continued cooperation with this annual change to our waste collection service and wish to thank them in advance for their support.

"This is for a short period only during the winter months and it does make sense to suspend the green waste collection when, traditionally, there is so little garden waste for our operatives to collect.

"Our household recycling centres are open every day except Christmas Day and we would urge residents to dispose of any garden waste at one of these centres during this period."

Residents wishing to find out more detail about the suspension of green waste collections in Cheshire East should visit the online calendar.

1. what do 'our operatives' do when taken off collection of garden waste?
2. how much 'costs' are actually saved? i.e. how much actual money?
3. what does 'retionalise resources' mean in English?
4. 'so little garden waste ... to collect'; who measured and please give out the figures.

I'm not saying its wrong or whatever, but some facts rather than vague terminology would be nice?

I note the resumption of Green bin collection is 23 February 2018.

In an attempt to save a few pounds we could probably push the green bin collection back to 23 March. I doubt there will be much leaf collection and grass cutting etc going on in late February / early March.

Perhaps the money saved could be utilised in filling in a few potholes......
