Police sergeant accused of murdering his detective wife faces trial next year

A date has been set for the trial of a police sergeant from Wilmslow who has been accused of murdering his detective wife Leanne McKie.

Darren McKie, 43, from Burford Close, Wilmslow appeared at Chester Crown Court this morning, Wednesday 4th October, via video link.

A provisional trial date has been set for March 5th 2018 and it is yet to be determined at which court Darren McKie will appear next year.

A bail application was not made and Mr McKie remains in police custody.

Mr McKie was arrested in the early hours of Friday 29th September after the body of Leanne McKie, a mother of three, was found in a lake at Poynton Park. He was subsequently charged with murder on Monday, 2nd October.

Leanne McKie, 39, served with Greater Manchester Police since 2001, working in the Serious Sexual Offences Unit.

Officers investigating the murder of Leanne McKie would like to speak to a group of four people who were walking past Poynton Lake in the early hours of Friday 29 September. The group were seen walking along A523, London Road North, towards Stockport at approximately 12.15am.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around Poynton Park between 11.30pm on Thursday 28 September and 3.30am on Friday 29 September and has witnessed anything suspicious or unusual to come forward.

They would also like to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen Leanne's red Mini (registration number DA12 DFO) during the afternoon of Thursday 28 September into the early hours of Friday 29 September.
