The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has paid tribute to a Wilmslow mother of three whose body was found in a lake in Poynton in the early hours of Friday, 29th September.
A murder investigation has been launched into the suspicious death of Leanne McKie - a serving police officer with GMP who worked "tirelessly to provide support and seek justice for victims of sexual crimes".
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins of Greater Manchester Police said: "It is with great sadness that I can confirm that the body of serving GMP officer Leanne McKie was found in Poynton yesterday morning and a murder investigation has been launched by Cheshire Police.
"I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to Leanne's family and friends at this devastating time. My heart particularly goes out to her three young children, who she adored."
Leanne, 39, served with Greater Manchester Police since 2001, working in the Serious Sexual Offences Unit.
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins added " Leanne was a popular figure among her colleagues, who have been left devastated by the news of her tragic death. She will be sorely missed by everyone she worked with."
Police officers were called to reports that the body of a woman had been found in a lake at Poynton Park at approximately 3.45am on Friday, 29th September.
Detective Inspector Adam Waller said "Investigations into her death are currently ongoing and we are working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
He added "I would like to reassure local residents that at this stage this appears to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to her death."
A 43-year-old man from Wilmslow has been arrested in relation to the incident and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
