Deputy Leader steps down from Cabinet

Cllr David Brown

Cheshire East Council has confirmed that their Deputy Leader Cllr David Brown has chosen to stand aside from his cabinet duties for the time being.

His decision to stand down as Portfolio Holder was for Transport and infrastructure, came after yesterday's confirmation that Cheshire Constabulary is looking into concerns about the Council's allocation of public funds in making a £70,000 grant to Berkeley Academy in Wistaston for a car park.

Leader of the Council Cllr Rachel Bailey said "I understand and respect Cllr Brown's decision to stand aside today. I will work closely with his cabinet deputy, Cllr Glen Williams to ensure that the work continues following the lead Cllr Brown has shown in taking forward the important work on the A500 consultation and Crewe Green link road, without delay or distraction."

Cllr Brown remains a councillor for Congleton East, and as Deputy Leader of the Council.
