Where the footpaths are paved with potholes

Councillor Craig Browne recently submitted a request to Cheshire East Highways for the footpath on West Street in the village centre to be included in next year's capital budget for resurfacing.

Following a meeting of the Area Highways Group on Thursday, 14th September, the early indications are that West Street will be included in next year's programme.

Councillor Browne said "I have also been asked to highlight any other footpaths that are of particular concern and therefore plan to ask for Stevens Street to be included as well. Whilst I am aware that I won't get everything on my "shopping list" I would like to ask residents to tell me of any other areas that they think should be prioritised in either 2018 or 2019."

It has also been agreed that the footpaths on Blackshaw Lane will be resurfaced later this year.

I believe Ringway Jacobs still have the contract for our road/pavement maintenance. They used to be very approachable and helpful. The head of Ringway Jacobs gave me his direct dial number and would often get issues sorted. His opposite number who headed highways for Cheshire East was similarly helpful and proactive. (This was all at the height of the recession and before extra government funds were allocated) . Along came a few scandals and regime changes at CEC and I have to say there is a total difference in attitude with the new folk at the top in Highways (not the helpful customer contact staff or the junior highway officers and engineers). I have found (on speaking to) 2 very senior gentlemen who have taken over, an air of surliness bordering on aggression. They were full of scripted excuses for uncoordinated road closures, diversions which send you around in circles or many miles out of your way. Roads are now closed at the drop of a hat and heaven knows how much this costs the local economy. I was taken aback by their rudeness after polite question on my part. I get the impression that they (like Clark Gable's famous character) frankly "don't give a damn"....

Is this a joke or is it the 1st April " ask residents to tell me of any other areas that they think should be prioritised in either 2018 or 2019."

How about all of Alderley Edge in 2019, it will need it by then !

I think Jon Williams makes a valid point.

Should we all withhold payment of Council Tax until 2018/2019 as there appears to have been no 'return on investment' in recent years?

This is not a flippant question.

Cllr David Brown (Head of Potholes) at CEC has stepped down from the Cabinet, until one of the many investigations is over.
