Popular Ryleys' teacher dies at New Year

Paul Wright, a teacher at The Ryleys School in Alderley Edge died suddenly on Saturday 2nd January 2010. Paul who was 51 years old passed away at The Christie Hospital. Paul had bravely battled a short illness and had been receiving treatment at The Christie. 

Born in Nottingham in 1958, his teaching career spanned over 28 years. Starting at Henbury High School, Paul then moved on to teach at St John’s C of E school in Macclesfield before joining The Ryleys School, where he was Head of Geography and Design and Technology, for the last 12 years.

Paul had lived in Whaley Bridge for the last 20 years, with his wife Angelika. Paul was passionate about environmental issues and was in the process of fitting solar panels to his home. He also loved the outdoors and was a keen walker and scuba diver. He will be remembered for his great zest of life, his kindness and his infectious smile.

Headmaster, Mr Pat Barrett, paid tribute to Paul “ Paul was an exceptional teacher and he will be greatly missed by everyone at The Ryleys. Over the years he has inspired generations of pupils with his boundless enthusiasm and dedication and his loss is keenly felt. All our thoughts are with his wife Angelika and his family at this time”.

The Funeral will take place at St Philips and St James’ Church, at 3pm Wed 13th January. The family have requested donations, instead of flowers, to The Christie Hospital.

Angelika Wright, Paul’s wife , said “ I cannot put in to words how fantastic the staff at Christies have been , they constantly re- assured us and were a source of great support.”
