Council urges check your neighbours as icy conditions continue

According to a bulletin from Cheshire East Council today, "conditions continue to worsen, especially in the north of Cheshire East and it is becoming apparent that some residents who don’t normally require help are now beginning to need assistance – if only to get basic shopping done."

As leading members of their communities, councillors are being asked to spread the message that people should look out for their neighbours, make the effort to go round to check everything is alright and give what assistance they can.

People should look out for important warning signs such as:

• Untouched snow on driveways – which could mean that the people in the house don’t feel safe venturing out.
• A lack of smoke or steam coming from chimneys or boiler vents – as something could be wrong with the heating or the household have insufficient fuel to keep warm.

The Authority are urging residents to do whatever they can within the community. A spokesperson from Cheshire East said "If those with vehicles better suited to winter weather, or those who can walk to shops can bring in additional supplies to these households, they too can help work together as a community to protect its more vulnerable residents."

Thanks to Councillor Marc Asquith for enabling us to spread the message.

Thank you to the lady in the car park outside the Co-op who rescued me when my car became stuck just an hour ago. She used the last of the grit that she had in the boot of her car to free my wheels. It is gestures such as this that mean so much - thank you whoever you are!
