Starting tomorrow United Utilities will be carrying out Water Treatment Works in Alderley Edge as part of the construction of the Wilmslow to Alderley Edge pipeline, a new 4.8km water pipeline that will run from Wilmslow Water Treatment Works to Alderley Edge Service Reservoir.

Construction of this pipeline began in June and will take two years, when completed it will ensure that the area has a robust water network.

Road closures are now required to complete the three short remaining sections that affect the highway network. The start of this phase of work has been delayed by the recent severe weather conditions and the dates below may change if adverse weather causes further delays.

  • From Wednesday 13th January United Utilites will be closing a section of Heyes Lane at it’s junction with Hough Lane to install a cross connection to the new water main under the road. This section is expected to remain closed for 6 days.

A diversion route will be signed taking vehicles along Prestbury Road, Handforth Bypass, Wilmslow Road, London Road and Heyes Lane. Click here for a map of the diversion route.

  • From Wednesday 20th January a section of Hough Lane will be closed between Heyes Lane and Moss Road to install the new twin water mains under the road. This is expected to remain closed for 3 weeks.

A diversion route will take vehicles along Heyes Lane, Trafford Road and Mottram Road. Click here for a map of the diversion route.
